Two wood carved masks originating with the Magar people of western Nepal and northeast India. The larger, possibly depicting the god Shiva, is outfitted with a strand of fibrous cord for wearing. This piece measures approximately 11" high, 5 1/2" wide and 3 1/4" deep and exhibits quite a bit of surface wear. The smaller of the two pieces measures approximately 12" high, 6 1/4" wide and 4" deep and exhibits some surface wear and cracks running throughout the wooden structure. A pair of holes have been bored in the sides to equip a strap for wearing and the remnants of a wax export stamp can be found inside the mask.
