Beautiful sculpture of a horse head. Possibly Italian, ca. 19th - 20th century. Made of a gorgeous pink marble with grey / black veining (rosa aurora marble from Portugal?). This horse is running, with its ears back and the wind pushing its mane backward. Its mouth is open and breathing. This active and kinetic representation of a horse is wonderful, and a masterful demonstration of the stonecarver's art. Deep details and expert carving show the work of a true artist. Condition: possible breaks, unknown if a body existed for the horse. One ear is chipped, Some loss / dinging / marks, but is overall a beautiful work of art. 13 3/4" long by about 5" wide.
