Set of three volumes (dated 1773) comprising the entirety of "An Account of the Voyages Undertaken by the Order of His Present Majesty for Making Discoveries in the Southern Hemisphere and Successfully Performed by Commodore Byron, Captain Carteret, Captain Wallis, and Captain Cook, in the Dolphin, the Swallow, and the Endeavour" by John Hawkesworth and published by W. Strahan and T. Cadell. Includes Dedication (to the King), Table of contents, Introduction, An Explanation of Nautical Terms, A Description of the Cuts, Directions for Placing the Cuts and Charts and Preface to the Second Edition. Volume I comprises 456 pages, Volume II: 410 pages and Volume III: 395 pages. Numbers of plates present in Volume I: 21 (of 23), Volume II: 21 (of 23) and Volume III: 9 (of 8). It appears some illustrations were extracted from the original publishing. The bound portions each measure approximately 9" x 11" with widths between 1 1/4" and 2". Presented in later day backings with replacement spines that are in poor condition with fully or very nearly detached covers across all three volumes. The content of the books themselves are in fair condition with foxing, toning, staining, bowing and some wormholes present on the pages throughout.
