Set of two volumes (Third Edition dated 1779) comprising the entirety of "A Voyage Towards the South Pole, and Round the World. Performed in His Majesty's Ships the Resolution and Adventure, in the Years 1772, 1773, 1774, and 1775" by James Cook. Printed for W. Strahan and T. Cadell, booksellers in The Strand. Includes Table of Contents, Introduction, List of Plates and Sir John Pringle's Discourse. Volume I comprised of 378 pages and Volume II: 396 pages. Number of plates present in Volume I: 37 (of 37) and in Volume II: 27 (of 32). It appears some illustrations were extracted from the original publishing. The bound portions each measure approximately 9" x 11" with widths 1 1/2" and 1 3/4". Presented in later day backings with replacement spines that are in poor condition with fully or very nearly detached covers across both volumes. The content of the books themselves are in fair condition with foxing, toning, staining, bowing and some wormholes present on the pages throughout.
