Group of four leaves from a Nashki script Qur'an. Likely Mughal India, ca. 17th century. The Nashk / Nashki script was a popular writing style for Qur'ans, and many copyists employed it as it was easy to read. Each of these pages is matted and tabbed, ready for framing, with two leaves matted individually and two conjoined leaves matted together. Identifying labels on interior of mattes. Condition: some worming, some repair and wear, aging as expected. Darkening around where leaves have been mounted in paper. Very interesting pieces in the book arts tradition of Islam. 5 1/2" tall by 3 3/4" wide (leaf), 7" tall by 5" wide (matte) for individuals. 7 1/4" tall by 9 3/4" wide (double leaf), 9 3/8" tall by 10 1/2" wide (double leaf matte). Also, three manuscript pages from Mughal India or Safavid / Afsharid Persia / Iran. Indian or Persian, ca. 18th - 19th century. One sutra leaf showing a Brahmin's horoscope with inscriptions in a Brahmi script (possibly Devanagari), likely in Sanskrit, ca. 19th century. With colorful floral decoration. Two 18th century scientific dissertations in Persian, written in the Nasta'liq script and detailing herbs and alchemy. All pieces are matted and tabbed. Condition: good overall, with expected wear and aging, damage around edges. Worming. Some holes from previous mounting / binding. Horoscope: 7 1/2" tall by 6 1/4" wide (leaf), 11 1/8" tall by 10 1/16" wide (matte). Alchemical dissertation: 11 3/4" tall by 8" wide (leaf), 16 1/8" tall by 11" wide (matte).
