Two ceremonial pieces meant to ward off (or sometimes capture) malicious spirits originating with the Senufo people of Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Mali. One, a two faced Janus mask (a Wanyugo or Waniugo) measures approximately 20" long, 12 1/2" high and 10" wide and is in poor condition; exhibiting overall deterioration, chips and cracks throughout. Several large sections have broken off (including three horns, a tooth and a tusk between the two depicted creatures). The other, an elongated fire-breather (or Kponyungo) mask is overall in better condition than its counterpart but is missing a section of the horn adorning his head. This piece masures approximately 34" long, 8" high and 8" wide. From the collection of a world traveler of 45+ years who has circumnavigated the globe via sailboat.
