Grouping of six oblong wood carved bowls by the Tami or Siassi peoples of eastern New Guinea. The largest of these measures approximately 29" in length, 9 1/2" wide and 4" high; the smallest (not pictured but of a similar style) measures 20" in length, 5" wide and 3" high. Five of the pieces exhibit age related wear in the form of scuffs, dings, nicks scratches and fading paint but are in overall good condition. One piece however, carved in the semblance of a bird, suffers from a crack running nearly the entire length of the bowl with fractures branching off from this that have damaged the intricate decorative carving at the front of the piece. The bowl was reassembled at some point but the adhesive application is less than perfect and a piece from the damaged front portion remains missing.
