Oil on copper painting of Saint Francis of Paola (Francesco di Paola / Francis the Fire Handler). European (possibly Italian), ca. 18th - 19th century. St. Francis of Paola was a 15th century Italian saint, and is the patron saint of sailors. Painting depicts Francis in his Franciscan habit with a staff, and the saint's symbol, the word "Charitas" (Latin for Charity or Love) in a sunburst. Framed behind wood. Good condition overall, with minor loss at bottom center and patina on reverse. Paint is rather dark. Otherwise, very visually appealing. 8" by 6 3/8" (copper plate) and 10 3/8" by about 9" (framed).
