Pair of silverplate candlesticks designed by noted surrealist Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904 - 1989). Entitled “Castor” and “Pollux”, after the famed heroes of Greek and Roman mythology. Dali makes the candlesticks mirror images of one another, with geometric forms that call to mind the classical proportions of Greek statuary while being abstract. Each is numbered 824 / 2000, named, and marked with Dali’s signature. Condition: expected wear from use and plating oxidation. Each is about 12” tall by 7” deep.
