An incredible collection of 18 photos taken during Operation Magic Carpet (or Operation On Wings of Eagles), 1949 - 1950. This multinational effort transported nearly 50,000 Jews from Yemen to the newly created State of Israel. It was organized by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency of Israel. Yemeni Jews were airlifted from Aden on countless airplanes for over a year. These photographs were taken during the Operation, and are attributed to either the Jeruslaem Post or the JDC itself. These were printed around 1979 - 1980. These photographs show various faces of the Operation. We see mothers and fathers, children and grandparents. We can see the concern on their faces, and the viewer begins to understand the forces driving them to leave their homeland for the Promised Land. Many of the photos are portraits of individuals, depicting their excitement and anxiety over their upcoming trip. We also see glimpses of their culture, and their dress. Finally, we are also shown images of the Airlift itself, with the boarding of planes and images of the planes themselves. 15 of the 18 are matted and framed behind glass, with minor foxing on matting, some rippling to photos. Minor wear on frames / glass as expected, with one glass being chipped. Prints are about 12" long by 9 1/2" wide. Matted and framed, they are about 14" by 11". This is a ready made exhibit, ready to be shown and appreciated. Keywords: Israeli, Yemenite, Teimanim, anthropological, realist, realism, Judaism, Judaica, art, photography, exhibition
