Oil on canvas painting showing the Archangel Gabriel holding lilies in his hand. European (Possibly Italian), ca. 19th century. After Renaissance / Baroque depictions of the Annunciation, where St. Gabriel announced the Birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary. Gabriel is well painted, with soft, well-modelled features. Painting is in good condition overall, with one area where the painting has torn but the piece has been taped to the back of the canvas. A good candidate for a relatively simple restoration. Framed in a large, Aesthetic gilt wood frame. Frame opening is oval, but the canvas is rectangular. Frame in good condition, with minor wear. 27" tall by 21" wide (oval opening), 28 1/4" tall by 22 1/4" wide (canvas), 39 1/2" tall by 33 1/2" wide by 4" deep (frame).
