Vintage Straits Chinese lacquer tabletop shrine. Chinese, ca. late 19th - early 20th century. Likely produced in mainland China for the Straits Chinese (Peranakan) market in Southeast Asia. Black with gold lacquer over wood with extensive carving. Paintings and carvings of figures (Emperors and attendants?), birds, animals, vases and ritual objects, and a landscape painting within the shrine, with a Chinese inscription. Condition is good, with expected wear, patina. 16 1/4" by 11 3/4" by 6 1/2".
