Bronze medallion awarded posthumously to Valentine Frederick whose act of heroism is detailed on page 184 of the included publication "Carnegie Hero Fund Commission" dated January 31st , 1914. Medal is presented in its original 4 1/2" x 4 3/8" leather wallet produced by J.E. Caldwell & Co. (Philadelphia). Medal is in fine condition (probably not as lustrous as when it was minted) but the wallet is exhibiting signs of deterioration throughout (the front facing portion stamped "Carnegie Medal" is largely fine). The softcover book is in good condition with some dog-earring of the first few pages at the lower right corner and some splitting at the junctions of cover and spine.
