Art glass plate / charger by noted British-American studio glassmaker, Maurice Heaton (1900 - 1990). American, ca. 1948. This platter shows hunters and African animals, such as a hippo, an elephant, and a buffalo, along with birds and gazelles / antelopes (?). The overall design is inspired by rock art from southern Africa. A masterful work by Heaton, another example is found at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY. Clear glass with applied color. Signed "M.H." in lower center, along rim. 14 3/8" diameter, 1 3/4" tall. Good condition.
