Large Meissen porcelain sculpture of Napoleon Bonaparte on horseback. Made at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in Meissen, Germany, this figure recalls Jacques-Louis David's famous painting, "Napoleon Crossing the Alps" (1801 - 1805). This sculpture shows Napoleon on a horse which rears up. Below the pair is a crushed cannon. The base has an "N" for Napoleon. The underside of the sculpture has the Meissen Crossed Swords mark, dating to approximately 1934 - 1945. Metal sword is included. Good condition overall. Cannon seems to have been reattached, and there is a pool of glue that has dried around the horse's hoof. Some rough areas around cannon. 28" tall by 20" wide.
