Oil on wood landscape painting of an alpine lake, signed by Hippolyte Roux (French, b.1852 - ?). French, late 19th century. Roux specialized in Alpine School landscapes such as this, and did not paint exclusively on canvas. Signed "H. Roux" in bottom center, this painting shows an Alpine lake with a castle and church on a peninsula with people in a small boat in the foreground. Behind, the mighty Alps loom. Wooden board serves also as frame, and has carved details of flowers. Condition: Good overall, minor wear, some loss of flower molding. Boards are somewhat separated, but may have been in this condition originally. 19 3/4" wide by 16 1/4" tall by about 1 1/2" deep.
