British Railways' Warship Class (Class 43) D848 Sultan locomotive nameplate. XRF testing reveals iron, zinc and copper alloy (non-magnetic). Christened after the Royal Navy warship, the Sultan ran service from April 1961 - March 1969 and was ultimately scrapped in 1971. Plaque measures 30 1/2" x 11". There are scuffs and abrasions present and the plate does shows evidence of being repainted, but is in overall fine condition. From a Massachusetts estate. Age and origin unknown Heavy shipping item.
