19th Century Wood Match Strike Base with various battlefield relics mounted atop it. A canister shot ball (engraved with "Gettysburg 1863") and a fragment of its encasing canister (engraved with the words "Wolf Hill") sit at either end of the piece flanked by fired Minie balls and various bits of Earth found at the scene of the battle (rock fragments and a piece of tree bark). An eagle sits astride the piece. There is some age related wear throughout and an unknown piece missing from the base. Likely the work of Edward Woodward, a gunsmith in Gettysburg who created these desk displays between about 1885 and 1900. Woodward’s displays were characterized by the distinctive metal eagle that he crafted himself and included in the array of each set of relics.
