Painting (either oil or acrylic on paper) by the renowned American artist, Charles C. Gruppe (1928 - 2019). Gruppe, who is the nephew of Emile Gruppe and the grandson of the elder Charles P. Gruppe, is well-regarded for blending expressive coloration and painterly brushstrokes with traditional New England / Northeastern themes and subjects. In this painting, we see a copse of birch trees with bright red foliage. The land and water around these trees is made up of grey-blues and purples, with hints of other colors throughout. Gulls can be seen circling about. Signed by Gruppe in lower right corner. The painting is matted and framed, and the frame is shrink wrapped. Painting is in excellent new, as-bought condition. 28 1/4" wide by 21" tall (opening in matte), 36 1/4" wide by 29 1/4" tall by 7/8" deep.
