Oil on Artist panel, Initialed ADB lower left, possibly an oil sketch by Albertus Del Orient Browere (1814 - 1887). Text of an included correspondence from an art historian as follows: "Small Catskill Mnt painting, initialed A.D.B. SOURCE: "The New York Historical Society's Dictionary of Artists in America", 1564 - 1860. Written by: Groce & Wallace. ARTIST: Browere, Albertus D. O. 1814 - 1887. Exhibited in the National Academy 1831 - 1841. Moved to NYC, Catskills in 1834. Worked as a druggist during this period. Went to California in 1851, returned to Catskills in 1856. Painted until 1887. Most famous for his scenes done out west. Your painting was probably painted prior to his trip out west. Groce & Wallace doesn't have anything distinctive to say about his painting prior to this time. OTHER SOURCES: Bolton, Miniature Painters, Cowely, NAD, Van Nostrand and Coulter, and Metropolitan Museum - Life in America." Artwork measures approximately 10" wide and 12 1/2" high and is in fine condition with the exception of some rubbing from contact with the frame border (the board sits loosely in the frame). Gilt frame measures measures approximately 14 1/2" wide, 17" high and 2 1/2" deep and is in poor shape. Most notably sizable pieces of the moulding have chipped away, with cracks in the finish throughout. Frame also exhibits scuffs, scratches and chips throughout. a.    ADDRESS: NEA is not responsible for incorrect shipping addresses. Buyers must verify the shipping address listed on their invoice prior to shipment. Standard items packed internally by NEA will ship approximately one to fourteen business days after payment.

c.    OVERSIZE/SPECIAL: Certain auction items exceed standard shipping fees and may require over-sized and heavy shipping surcharges. Every effort is made to note these charges prior to catalog publication, but may be included on a shipping invoice post auction without notice.
d.    INTERNATIONAL: NEA welcomes international buyers. NEA does offer limited in-house shipping for international buyers. Please contact us prior to the auction for quotes and more information. It shall be the potential buyer's sole responsibility to research and satisfy the requirements of any laws and regulations that apply to the import and export of property and for paying all shipping costs, customs and duties on the items. NEA will not, declare lesser values for any international purchases and all shipments will include the invoice with purchase totals including the buyer's premium and shipping cost.
